Hiren boot USB making is a two step process.

  1. Make a USB bootable.
  2. Install konboot in USB

Section I: Making USB bootable:

(Skip to section II if USB is already bootable)

In order to make a USB drive bootable, following requirements must fulfill.

– A USB must have a primary partition
– The primary partition have to be “active”

Step 1: Checking Drive Status

Open “Computer Management” by right clicking Computer->Manage.
Click on “Disk Management” from Storage in left pane.

Depending upon your disk drives, see the “Removable Disk x” status, which has to be primary partition and active. If your USB drive is already active, skip to section II. Otherwise keep reading.

Step 2: Making Drive Active

Extract and then Open “USB format” tool and choose your usb from Device list.
[Windows 7 and greater users right click and choose “Run as Administrator”]
Check “Quick format” and click Start. It will erase all data and format the drive.

After that, the drive will be shown as “Active” in “Computer Management, as shown in below screen.

Section II: Install Konboot in USB:

Step 3: MBR

Extract konboot and navigate to “kon-USB” as shown in screen below.

Run “konboot_usb.exe”. [Windows 7 or greater users should right click and choose “Run as administrator”]

Type “y” to enable the drive to be used for kon-boot.

If there is no error message and “all done” is written, then you have been successfully installed the MBR for boot. Otherwise, you have to run as administrator.

Step 4: Konboot Install

Here you have two options. Either copy all the files from “USBFILES” folder to root of USB.

Simply run “USB_Install” script.

Click “OK”

What Is Kon Boot

Congratulations! You have successfully created a bootable konboot USB.

Now you can simply boot from this USB by setting USB Storage as first boot device. At user login screen, simply press login button with blank password to log in.
